This again is a test of your knowledge of 1960’s sitcoms. Previously I wrote about Green Acres , which was located in Hooterville. What was located halfway between Pixley and Hooterville ? Yup, Petticoat Junction.
Just like the sitcom, there is something between the backyard garden and the mega greenhouse. Milwaukee is fortunate to have the guru of urban farming, Will Allen and his venture Growing Power. We at Maglio are partnering with them to put ½ acre of hoop house on some vacant land adjacent to our facility. The city has given its conceptual approval and we are drawing up the plans for the construction and operation of the project.
In addition to growing tomatoes and peppers, we will be providing education, training and jobs to the community. The local retail community has given us their commitment to market the crops. This should be a great cooperative project that brings value beyond the sale of the harvest.
The third show of the group was The Beverly Hillbillies. That was about a rural family that struck it rich with oil on their property and moved into the pretentious city of Beverly Hills. Will I have something to say about that? Stay tuned…
