Strategic Planning

Produce has typically been a very tactical, reactionary industry.  If the growing conditions were right and there was a bountiful crop, everyone in the supply side switched into high gear and marketed the product.  This has worked for hundreds, even thousands of years but, it will not work anymore. As resources (water, energy, labor) become more scarce we need to evolve into a strategic industry that plans for our own destiny.

From the seed variety and location of the growing operation, to the harvest and transport to the customer, every step will matter – sustainably as well as economically.  While thus far we have all been trained to be reactionary, our future generations will be guided by strategy.  Those who can put together great processes, including contingency plans for the inevitable ‘black swan’ events, will be the success stories of the future.  It starts here and now with the current leaders of the industry breaking the reactionary cycle and replacing it with a proactive posture.
