Our full-time Food Safety/Quality Assurance director is dedicated to overseeing the safe growing, transport, receipt, warehousing, repacking, handling, processing and loading of all Maglio products and oversees the adherence to the company’s Food Security Plan and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) Plan. We involve all employees in the overall safety of the food at this facility and have operating procedures in place for the sole purpose of preventing intentional and unintentional product contamination.

  • Maglio is proud to hold an audit grade of "AA" from the British Retail Consortium (BRC). The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety was the first standard in the world to be approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GSFI).
  • Maglio has also successfully passed the USDA Federal and State Audit Program for Good Agricultural Practices & Good Handling Practices. We are now certified as both a packing house and wholesale distribution center.

Sanitation

As a powerful oxidizer, ozone is effective against bacteria such as E. Coli, viruses, fungi, protozoa, smallpox and anthrax.
  • Maglio Companies is a pioneer in the use of low-level ozone to sanitize all produce storage facilities. Ozone is the most powerful broad spectrum microbiological control agent available and kills free pathogens on both the surface of the product and in the circulating cooling air of the storage room.
    • Ozone has full FDA approval for direct-food contact application.
    • Ozone is 51% more powerful on bacterial cell walls than chlorine, killing bacteria 3,100 times faster.
    • Ozone is chemical-free and produces no toxic by-products, improving the safety of employees and the environment.
  • Our Triple Treatment Tomato Tunnel utilizes various and appropriate combinations of ozone paracetic acid, and chlorine with spray or fog delivery to rid tomatoes of pathogens, spoilage organisms and bacteria on contact.

Internal Auditing

  • A formal internal audit is conducted monthly to ensure the company’s food security protocols are being followed in every area of the operation.
  • A 15 member team has been trained to identify and log any food safety concerns as they arise, and the department manager over the area identified as a concern is responsible for presenting and implementing a corrective action.

Traceability

  • Every piece of produce that is packed at either Maglio facility is labeled with a Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) label and can be traced back to its field origin.
