Social Responsibility
Our quest to find the perfect balance between corporate social responsibility and business is everchanging as we continue to grow.
Our quest to find the perfect balance between corporate social responsibility and business is everchanging as we continue to grow.
Our partnership with the Riverwest Food Pantry and Groundwork Milwaukee is helping the community discover the joys of urban farming. Volunteers are invited to get a little dirty and know that together we are bringing delicious, healthy and locally grown produce to benefit thousands of families.
Maglio’s goal is to support farming practices that are sustainable for generations to come. We know where our food comes from and make every effort to source products that do not compromise the future of farming or production of quality produce. Sustainable agriculture practices benefit the environment by maintaining soil quality, saving water, and reducing erosion. In addition, we support and provide safe work environments with fair working conditions and good benefits to workers.
We currently produce thousands of pounds of custom-cut waste per week. Our goal is to dispose of the peels by partnering with a local company that specializes in using a patented biodegradable process at a facility located only a few miles from our Glendale location. Waste that would otherwise go to a landfill is eliminated and recycled into usable energy.
Maglio is committed to finding alternative energy sources to power our facilities. In 2018, we installed over 1100 solar panels on the roof of our Glendale, Wisconsin facility. This array is expected to produce an estimated 477,000 kilowatts hours of sustainable electricity every year and is the equivalent annual energy usage of 58 average Wisconsin homes.
Maglio Companies provides our customers with the safest and most secure produce available. That commitment has manifested itself in a philosophy of prevention that is evident in our rigorous food safety practices. Maglio is proud to hold an audit grade of “AA” from the British Retail Consortium (BRC). The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety was the first standard in the world to be approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GSFI). Maglio has also successfully passed the USDA Federal and State Audit Program for Good Agricultural Practices & Good Handling Practices. We are now certified as both a packing house and wholesale distribution center.
